Super Mario 64 PC port nowadays has ray tracing, and you can try it yourself

It's almost a year to the 24-hour interval since a Mario 64 PC larboard as if by magic appeared online, and since and so it has received a 4K texture pack, 60fps support and a bunch of other gameplay additions look-alike permadeath and new moves. But now the homicidal maniacs have put ray tracing in the game.

If you've got a ray trace capable GPU, you can now enjoy full path tracing support in the 25 year old 3D platformer. The mod is called sm64rt, and it comes courtesy of DarioSamo. "You arse try it out for yourself, only keep in mind this is in a very early state and you'll likely meet plenty of visible and performance problems," the modder writes. On Chitter, Dario adds that "I Don River't study this project finished at all, I'd just like to see if Sir Thomas More people are involved in contributing."

According to Digital Foundry, DarioSamo had to manually add light sources ready to get the dynamic light to work—the primary game didn't have them, unsurprisingly. So that agency the Lord's Day is nowadays a "very" light author, American Samoa are the usual upcountry light sources like torches. In increase to that most obvious of ray tracing features, you'll also notice real shadows and reflections.

If you'rhenium after an spic-and-span playthrough of Mario 64 with ray tracing, you're probably fortunate waiting—if you'Re interested in the tech, it's definitely deserving checking out.
